Documentation

From sign-up to a live node in minutes.

Short, practical guides for running workloads on MistCloud: compute, storage, networking, DNS and billing in Frw.

01 · Account

Get started

Everything on MistCloud starts from one account in the console. No sales call, no quote.

  1. Create your accountSign up in the MistCloud console with a work email and confirm it.
  2. Name your organisationProjects, team members, keys and invoices all sit under it.
  3. Fund the walletTop up in Frw with MTN MoMo or Airtel Money. Resources draw from this balance.
02 · Compute

Launch an instance

Instances are KVM virtual machines with dedicated resources, root access and NVMe disks, running in KGL1.

  1. Open Compute nodesChoose New node from the console sidebar.
  2. Pick a shapeSelect vCPU, memory and disk. Published shapes and prices are on the pricing page.
  3. Attach an SSH keyPaste a public key or pick one saved under Settings. Password login stays off.
  4. CreateThe node is usually running in under a minute, with its public IP shown on the node page.
03 · Access

Connect over SSH

Generate a key once, add the public half to MistCloud, then connect as root.

Terminal
Create a key pair if you do not have one
ssh-keygen -t ed25519 -C "you@company.rw"
Copy the public key into Settings, SSH keys
cat ~/.ssh/id_ed25519.pub
Connect with the IP from the node page
ssh root@<node-ip>
04 · Storage

Volumes & snapshots

Keep state independent from compute so a node can be rebuilt without losing data.

  1. Snapshot before a changeTake a point-in-time snapshot from the node page before a deploy or upgrade.
  2. RestoreRoll a node back to any snapshot in its list. Snapshot size is shown per entry.
  3. TemplatesUse an image template to start new nodes from a known-good base.
05 · Network

Private networks & public IPs

Connect services privately and expose only what customers need to reach.

  1. Private addressesNodes in the same project talk over private addresses that never leave the region.
  2. Public IPsEach node gets a public IPv4. Reserve one when it needs to outlive a rebuild.
  3. Expose deliberatelyOpen only the ports your service answers on and keep SSH key-only.
06 · Domains

Domains & DNS

Register .rw and other African and global names, then route them from the same console.

  1. Search and registerFind a name under Domains and register it in Frw.
  2. Point it at a nodeAdd an A record with the node IP, or AAAA, CNAME, MX and TXT as needed.
  3. Or keep your DNSLeave your zone where it is and point records at MistCloud nodes.
Verify a record
dig +short A app.yourcompany.rw
07 · Billing

Billing in Frw

Prices are published in Frw and charged against your wallet. No card required.

  1. Top upPay from MTN MoMo or Airtel Money and approve the prompt on your phone.
  2. Watch the runwayBilling and wallet shows the balance and how many days it covers at current usage.
  3. InvoicesEvery charge lands on an invoice under your organisation and its TIN.
08 · Automation

API keys & automation

Automate through keys scoped to your organisation. Treat them like passwords.

  1. Create a keySettings, API keys. The full key is shown once; afterwards only a masked tail is visible.
  2. Store it as a secretPut it in your CI or secret manager, never in a repository.
  3. Revoke freelyEach key shows when it was last used, so stale ones are easy to spot and remove.

The public API reference is published with the API. Until then, reach the team for early access. Contact us
